MokaFive BareMetal Platform Released

For Part II of my Synergy solutions review I’m going to take a look at the much-anticipated BareMetal platform that MokaFive launched at last month’s Citrix Synergy.

BareMetal is the last part of the MokaFive Suite (reviewed here) and MokaFive’s answer to the type 1 client hypervisor offerings  from Citrix and Virtual Computer. BareMetal is a special-purpose virtual desktop execution environment that is installable directly on the bare metal of a desktop PC or laptop, replacing the native operating system.

Back in 1987 I spent a while working for a PC dealership, what we now call a Value Added Reseller.  I don’t actually recall that the term VAR had been coined at that point, and besides the people I worked for tended to be referred to as “that bunch of bloody cowboys”

MokaFive Suite 3.0 – BareMetal Player and Windows Licensing


Following my last blog post on MokaFive Suite 3.0 I received a couple of questions on the MokaFive BareMetal player and the licensing implications of working with a client hypervisor. Both good questions, as both directly address significant points of differentiation between MokaFive and its competition.

MokaFive intros Suite 3.0 and new DaaS platform

Redwood City-based MokaFive made two announcements this week, introducing its first cloud offering (MokaFive Suite Service Provider Edition) as part of its next generation desktop virtualization suite (MokaFive Suite 3.0) – MokaFive has clearly focused more on engineering than it has on funding product branding focus groups and appears to have done so to good effect.
